Eligible Specialties:

Primary care physician specialties include Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Medicine/Pediatrics, Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. Psychiatry specialties include Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry and Medicine/Psychiatry.

Service Requirements (formerly Service Stipulation):

Participants receive payments during residency in exchange for a 3-year commitment to practice in a rural Kansas community. An eligible rural Kansas community is defined as any community outside of Sedgwick, Johnson, Wyandotte, Shawnee, or Douglas counties. Exceptions are made for physicians commencing as a full-time faculty member of the University of Kansas School of Medicine in primary care or psychiatry and the commitment is increased to six years.

Who Can Apply:

Primary care and psychiatry residents that are attending a Kansas residency program.

Deadline(s):

Applications are accepted September 1st through December 31st each year.

Amount of repayment per year of service:

Participants will receive up to $10,000 in state dollars. A community match is encouraged, with at least an additional $6,000 sign-on bonus, for a combined loan of at least $26,000.

Residents must complete a one-month rural rotation during their residency program.
