Tuition and Student Fees, First-Year Medical School Students 1997-1998

Table 1 compares current tuition and fee ranges, medians, and averages for all U.S. medical schools with the prior year. For public medical schools, average tuition and fees increased by 4.2 percent for residents, and by 5.6 percent for non-residents from 1996-1997 to 1997-1998. Average tuition and fees for private schools increased by 4.7 percent for residents, and by 3.9 percent for non-residents during the same period.

The data for prior years may differ from that previously reported due to corrections and changes in school status. For example, between FY02 and FY03 one school was reclassified from private to public.
