Faculty Practice Solutions Center (FPSC) Annual Report, Volume I: An Emerging Clinical Imperative

December 2002, 49 Pages

The University HealthSystem Consortium-AAMC Faculty Practice Solutions Center (FPSC) is a web-based database and reporting system designed to be a comprehensive resource for academic practice management benchmarking. FPSC includes data in the areas of physician clinical productivity, departmental financial and operational management, and the practice plan billing office. Volume I of the annual report from the FPSC was released in December 2002. The book is organized into three sections. The first section describes the current state of faculty practice plans across the nation. The second section reveals six major challenges threatening practice plan success, including Medicare payments, revenue management, faculty recruitment and retention, and escalating malpractice costs . The book concludes with a description of various analyses and information culled from the FPSC database that yield possible "solutions" to the financial and organizational challenges facing academic clinical practice.
