Primary Care Health Professionals: Doctors of Allopathic Medicine, Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, General Practice Dentists (D.D.S. or D.M.D.), Primary Care Certified Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse-Midwives, Primary Care Physician Assistants, Registered Clinical Dental Hygienists, Clinical or Counseling Psychologists (Ph.D. or equivalent), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (master's or doctoral degree in social work), Psychiatric Nurse Specialists, Mental Health Counselors, Licensed Professional Counselors (master's or doctoral degree with a major study in counseling), and Marriage and Family Therapists (master's or doctoral degree with a major study in marriage and family therapy).

Service Requirements (formerly Service Stipulation):
|
Committed to providing full-time clinical services in a public or non-public facility located in a federally designated Health Professional Shortage Area for a minimum of 2 years.

Who Can Apply:
|
The 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, Palau, the Marshall Islands and the Commonwealth of the Mariana Islands.

For States- next funding opportunity is anticipated for 2010. Each grantee State has its own application deadline dates for applicants.

Repayment/Scholarship terms:
|
In order to receive loan repayment benefits, practitioners must agree to practice in health professional shortage areas (HPSAs) for a minimum of two years.
|
|
Amount of repayment per year of service:
|
Varies by State and specialty. Practitioners receive up to $35,000 per year; loan repayment funds are exempt from federal taxes.
|
|

|
States must submit their grant applications through www.Grants.gov. For applying for SLRP funding opportunities, applicants should go to www.Grants.gov, click on "apply for" and enter the name of the program. Funding opportunities are also announced Practitioners at http://www.hrsa.gov/grants/default.htm. Prospective participants must apply directly with the State offices in which they are interested in completing their 2-year service obligation.

States must provide at least $1.00 match for each federal $1.00 received for loan repayment.
