Eligible Specialties:

Fully trained Allopathic (M.D.) and osteopathic (D.O.) physicians with specialities in Primary Care Medicine (Family Practice, General Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN) or General Psychiatry.

Service Requirements (formerly Service Stipulation):

Minimum of two (2) year commitment in a Virginia High Priority Target Area (medically underserved area), health professional shortage area (HPSA) or any Virginia State Agency or local government agency that may require services of a primary care practitioner.

Who Can Apply:

Fully trained Allopathic or Osteopathic physicians with specialties in Primary Care or General Psychiatry. Must be citizen of US. Must have valid unrestricted license to practice in VA.

Deadline(s):

Completed applications are accepted January 1 thru May 1 of every year.

Repayment/Scholarship terms:

This is a competitive program. A limited number of loan repayment participation contracts will be signed with participants in return for primary care medical services in a Virginia High Priority Target Area or HPSA.

Amount of repayment per year of service:

Up to $50,000 for a 2-year commitment; up to $85,000 for a three-year; up to $120,000 for a 4-year commitment. Funding is always dependant upon available funds.

Choose Virginia! A Healthy Place to Live and Work! Virginia's loan repayment programs are afforded to improve the recruitment and retention of primary care practitioners in high priority target areas (most medically underserved) of Virginia and in State and Local institutions.
