Eligible Specialties:

Fully trained Allopathic (M.D.) and osteopathic (D.O.) physicians with specialties in primary care medicine (Family Medicine, General Internal Medicine, General Pediatrics, OB/GYN) or general psychiatry, primary care nurse practitioners and physician assistants. To further expand our impact and increase primary care in Virginia, a collaboration holds with the Virginia Department of Health, Division of Dental Health to consider general dentists willing to serve Dental HPSAs.

Service Requirements (formerly Service Stipulation):

Contract to provide a minimum of two (2) years of primary medical, mental or dental care services, with a maximum of 4 years, in whole year increments, in a health professional shortage area (HPSA).

Who Can Apply:

Fully trained Allopathic (M.D.) and osteopathic (D.O.) physicians with specialties in primary care medicine or general psychiatrists, PCNP and PA's; citizen of US; valid unrestricted license to practice in VA; practice must be located in HPSA and must be a public or private-not-for-profit entity.

Deadline(s):

Completed applications are accepted January 1 thru May 1 of every year.

Repayment/Scholarship terms:

This is a competitive program. A limited number of loan repayment participation contracts will be signed with participants in return for primary care medical, mental or dental services in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).

Amount of repayment per year of service:

Up to $50,000 for a 2-year commitment; up to $85,000 for a 3-year commitment; up to $120,000 for a 4-year commitment. Funding is always dependant upon available funds.
