Be accessible to individuals regardless of their ability to pay; accept medicaid and medicare beneficiaries; maintain a retention component to encourage the retention of all health professionals including NHSC providers; be located in a federally designated primary care HPSA.

Up to $25,000/year for years 1 and 2; up $35,000/year for years 3 and 4; up to $25,000/year for year 5; up to $20,000/year for year 6 then it decreases to up to $15,000 for subsequent years.

The NHSC scholarship provides funds for tuition, books, lab fees and a living stipent. Awards are largely based on the HPSA score of the service site. They basically fund the highest scoring sites first then work their way down until they expend all funds.
