Family Practice, General Internal Medicine, General Pediatrics, Obstetrics/ Gynecology, and General Surgery.

Service Requirements (formerly Service Stipulation):
|
Must practice primary care, full time in board-approved rural Georgia county with population of 35,000 or less.
|

Who Can Apply:
|
U.S. citizens and Georgia residents who are attending an accredited US MD/DO school, have financial need, and are willing to serve in rural Georgia community.
|

Deadline(s):
|
June 1st of each year. Applications are review by the Board at the July Board meetings. All applicants are required to appear at the Board meeting for an interview.
|

Repayment/Scholarship terms:
|
Physicians who receive the SMEB scholarship while in medical school and fail to begin practice in a Board-approved, rural Georgia county after residency are immediately liable for three times the uncredited amount of the scholarship.
|
|
Amount of repayment per year of service:
|
Scholarship recipient are eligible for up to $20,000/year for maximum 4 years.
|

Annual medical fair where participants meet rural town representatives - 369 recruited since 1979 with a 71% retention rate.
